Object Detail

Brief description
This Ming bowl (provincial ware) was found in a convict hut context 1790-1810 in the underfloor area with a glass and convict cup. It was recovered at the George Street Parramatta archaeology site.

Ming bowls date back to the Ming Dynasty era (China) in the 15th Century during the reign of Yongle Emperor, third ruler of the Ming Dynasty. This innovative style of porcelain was produced for the Yongle court, and transformed bowls from being simply utilitarian to something decorative and artistic.
