Object Detail

Brief description
George III cartwheel pennies were given this title because they were larger than other pennies with a thick rim where the inscription was punched into the metal rather than standing in relief standing proud of it, The obverse of the Cartwheel is a laureated right-facing bust of George III, with the inscription GEORGIUS III D G REX, while the reverse showed the seated Britannia, facing left, holding an olive branch and trident with the inscription BRITANNIA 1797. This coin was minted for several years but all have the 1797 date.
