Brief description
This Series comprises three photo albums and one folder of images. The photographs were taken by staff of the Parramatta City Council's Engineers’ Department to record public works and damage to property following events such as flooding and vandalism. These albums include Parramatta, Granville, and Dundas Wards. Most images include captions which give the location and purpose of the image. Some dates are also included. Photographs in these albums have been developed from negatives listed in archives series PRS111. Parramatta Album – includes images of Parramatta, Granville, Dundas Wards and Construction Projects undertaken by Council. Granville Album – includes flood and storm damage, moving of Polever’s house from Smyth Street, also streetscapes, parks and vandalism. Dundas Album – includes flood and storm damage 1967, Alexander Street Garbage Depot, vandalism and projects such as curb and guttering and footpaths. Folder – includes flood and storm damage 1969, Bankshill Crescent and Broulee Place, Carlingford, four pages of undated proof sheets and one page of proofs dated March 1958. Many of the images were processed by the well-known Parramatta firm of ‘Elton Ward Studios’ which operated from premises in Argyle Street for over 60 years. These records are original and they have not been digitised.
