Object Detail

Brief description
Painted by Graham Cheney as part of his 'Dismissal' series in honour of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. It shows a group of men and boys attempting to move some blue poles, possibly in reference to a painting titled Blue Poles by Jackson Pollack that was authorised for purchase by National Gallery of Australia by Gough Whitlam. When it was purchased in 1973, it caused a great deal of controversy.
