Object Detail

Brief description
Large wooden shield with painted front 'Parramatta' and 'Strike Deep' at top and bottom of shield signifying the ceremonial relationship between the City of Parramatta and the Royal Australian Navy. There have been five ships named SS Parramatta, HMAS Parramatta I, HMAS Parramatta II, HMAS Parramatta III and Parramatta IV. The central design is a rendition of the Council crest with Aboriginal man spearing an eel surrounded by rope, possibly symbolising the use of rope in the Navy.
