Brief description
Cast iron seal embossing press with wooden handle and black enamel surface embellished with gold decorative lines and floral patterns. Contains metal die featuring the City of Parramatta council emblem surrounded by the words "The Parramatta City Council" Wooden handle is painted black. Written in gold at the base of the press are the words "Made by John Sands". John Sands (12 Nov 1818 - 16 Aug 1873) was an Australian engraver, printer and stationer. He foundered the John Sands company and published the Sands Directory. Sands was born in Sandhurst, Berkshire and emigrated to Sydney in 1837.
