Brief description

This series comprises the signed minute books of Granville Municipal Council from its inception in 1885 up until 1948 when the Council amalgamated with Parramatta City Council. Under the Local Government Act, Council is obliged to keep full and accurate minutes of the proceedings of its meetings. The minutes record correspondence received by Council; dates of meetings attendees; matters discussed; resolutions carried and defeated; and reports from various committees and sub-committees. From 1885 until July 1919, the minutes were handwritten, with an index to the meetings at the front of the book. From July 1919 the minutes were typed. Each minute book contained an index except for the years 1894-1912, 1943-1948. These records are original and have been digitised.
